I always remember what fun we all had during the holiday season. I think we went all out because we were all so far from home. It was important to keep those home holiday traditions afloat and to celebrate them as a makeshift family!
We used to decorate our boats with twinkling lights and wreaths, and some even decorated a tree up on deck for everyone to enjoy. A lot of us who lived at anchor in Elephant Bay on the back side of Water Island and Crown Bay Marina considered our anchorage as a lovely neighborhood and we would string our dinghies together with just a few idling their engines and we’d load up with some hot toddies and travel boat to boat singing Christmas carols winding our way over to the main harbor in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, USVI. Caroling became a tradition and everyone would be expecting us, and as we’d putter over to each boat, we’d be rewarded with appetizers, cookies, fudge, more hot toddies, etc. Those evenings remain among some of my favorites in the islands.
I’ve assembled just a few boating Christmas photos and Caribbean Christmas photos as a commemorative to my time in the Islands… I hope you enjoy!
Wishing you a joyous, safe, and peaceful Holiday Season!
